Evaluation of Selection Criteria for Third-Party Logistics Service Providers in Fruit Agricultural Products in Turkey Using Fuzzy DEMATEL
Abstract
The globalization of agri-food markets and growing consumer preferences for fruits have significantly increased the complexity of cold chain logistics systems. Fruits are highly perishable goods whose quality, safety, and shelf life vary with temperature and humidity controls within and across transportation, storage, and distribution. Any interruption or inefficiency in the cold chain can cause deterioration of quality, food safety risks, and financial losses. As a result, an efficient and reliable cold chain has become vital in agri-food supply chains. Third-party logistics service providers in this case are critical for the maintenance of specialized cold chain activities like refrigerated delivery, refrigerated storage, inventory maintenance, and last-mile deliveries. The selection of third-party LSPs for cold chain logistics for fruit agricultural products are made from quantitative and qualitative criteria and most of them are faced with uncertainty and subjectivity. The objective of this study is to determine the selection criteria for third-party logistics service providers in agricultural products, rank them according to their importance, and analyze the relationships between the selection criteria using the Fuzzy DEMATEL method for cold chain logistics in fruit agricultural product. According to the results obtained, the most important criteria are logistics costs, customer satisfaction, information systems applications for monitoring and tracking, and product quality. The criteria that most affect the other criteria are, in order, geographical coverage (K1), quality of employees (K2), green design of cold storage facilities (K12), innovation and efficiency of cold chain operations (K5), carbon emissions from refrigerated vehicles (K13), reliability and on-time delivery (K9), response speed and flexibility (K11), and the use of information technologies for monitoring and tracking (K7). The criteria affected by other criteria are logistics costs (K4), product quality (K10), refrigeration infrastructure (K6), customer satisfaction (K3) and temperature control capabilities (K8).
